Eye Glasses.

A number of visitors to my site have asked about my glasses, more specifically, how did I have the nerve to go to an optician and ask for woman's glasses. Well, the secret is that I didn't go to an optician, they're not prescription glasses. (I realize this won't help those of you who wear prescription glasses as a matter of necessity).

I had a couple of reasons for getting glasses:

Firstly, on one particular business trip, where I really wanted to dress and go out (I think it was in Las Vegas), I was staying in the same hotel as a number of my colleagues. I didn't feel confident that I was unrecognizable enough as Jennie, and was desperately trying to think of something I could do to further disguise my appearance - short of a brown paper bag over my head. Since I don't normally wear glasses, the idea struck me that this would make it less likely that any of my colleagues would recognize me.

Secondly, there's no doubt about it, but glasses definitely do make a girl look more studious, more mature and more business- like. All of these characteristics are right in line with the kind of conservative look that I wanted for Jennie.

So, how to get myself glasses? I knew I couldn't just buy a second-hand pair at a thrift store... I'd end up stumbling around, unable to see - not to mention possible damage to my eyes. Then, quite by accident, I was browsing through a local chemist shop/drug store, and saw some non-prescription "readers". Readers are basically magnifying lenses in a variety of contemporary frames, intended for, yes, you've guessed it ... Reading. The problem was that even the lowest magnification (+1.25) blurred everything for me. Then I found just what I was looking for, bi-focals. These are essentially plain glass (actually polycarbonate) with a 'half moon' of 1.25 magnification in the lower part of each lens.  They worked wonderfully! And best of all, they were comparatively inexpensive. My first pair only cost me $14. If you look carefully at the photo to the above left, you can just make out the bi-focal parts of the lenses.

Two of the most popular readers available are "Peepers" and "Dr. Dean Edell Readers". Follow the links below by clicking on the glasses to see some samples.
